Xbox’s UK Roadshow
Microsoft is taking an unprecedented (for the UK, at least), multi-faceted approach with the marketing campaign for new peripheral, Kinect. The UK and Ireland will see an extensive tour, including theme parks and shopping complexes, where fans will be able to book time to play the game with up to four of their friends.
As well as the tour, there will be a permanent base in Covent Garden, London, called the Kinect Galleries. Again, bookable sessions allow hands-on time with all of the launch titles.
At either of the two, gamers will be able to record videos of themselves playing that will be sent to kinect.me and then shared across their social networks. As well as this, Microsoft have set up ‘Kinect comes to you’ where local communities can petition to have the Kinect tour come to their village fete, school or other public space.
Although many have criticised the price point of £129.99/$149.99 it’s clear that the Xbox team are treating the launch as they would an entirely new console, not just an add-on.
