Freelancing As A Career On The Rise
A recent survey done by one of the largest freelancing sites on the web, Elance, reveals that more and more people are choosing freelancing over traditional full time jobs. And contrary to popular belief, the economic recession is no longer driving people towards freelancing; in fact, as much as much 70 percent of those surveyed said they are happier working independently compared to when they had full time jobs. And what is the main thing they like about the freelance lifestyle? The survey reveals that 80 percent of freelancers said the freedom to have a flexible work schedule was the best part of working independently.
Gigaom has more results from the survey:
More than 60 percent said they would prefer to remain a freelancer rather than take a full-time job. Over 60 percent also said their income has increased in the last year. According to the Elance report, the economic downturn is no longer the primary force driving professionals to start a freelance career. Less than 5 percent of those surveyed said they were working as a freelancer until they could find a full-time job, and less than 25 percent said they became freelancers after a layoff. Over half of those who responded to the survey said they began freelancing to be their own boss and work on projects they loved.
More than 700 freelancers participated in the survey conducted by Elance.
