Crowdsourced Commercialism Meets Hobbyist Enthusiasm

Crowdsourced Commercialism Meets Hobbyist Enthusiasm

By Stephen Fortune on January 27, 2011

Irish start up Picturk is a community driven online hub designed for photography enthusiasts and those seeking the perfect picture. Camera clubs utilize the online platform to run club competitions, in the process granting their members exposure.

Submissions to those competitions then form a crowdsourced repository of stock photos for digital image consumers to peruse and purchase. In addition, those seeking a particular photo can also post a brief the Picturk community

While currently in beta, once fully operation Picturk will work as follows:

camera clubs will pay a subscription fee to operate their competitions through the site, while designers will fund prizes, a portion of which will go to Picturk. Photographers will retain ownership of their images.
