PepsiCo Chairman and Chief Executive Indra Nooyi is teaming together their Tropicana, Quaker and Gatorade units to market a fruit-puree-in-a-pouch called Tropolis. Nooyi sees this merging of food and drink sub-brands as part of a larger industry trend towards combination foods like yogurt drinks popular in Europe, and the fruit, dairy and grain smoothies PepsiCo produces under its Naked line.
We see the emerging opportunity to ‘snackify’ beverages and ‘drinkify’ snacks as the next frontier in food and beverage convenience.
While Nooyi is directly referring to efforts to build PepsiCo’s nutritional foods brands, others are wondering what would happen if her logic were applied to PepsiCo’s other, much-more profitable brands. Could a soft-serve Doritos and Mountain Dew swirl combined in a tube be in our future?
