Canada To Implement Metered Internet Usage
Next month will see ‘Usage-Based Billing’ implemented in Canada, which means the country’s netizens will no longer be able to enjoy unlimited web surfing. The new Metered Internet rule caps monthly usage at 25GB and each gigabyte over and above this will cost CAN $1.90, which will substantially increase Internet bills for those who use the web to share music or stream videos and play online games.
This new rule, implemented by the Canadian Radio-Telecommunications Commission, aims to conserve bandwidth and has lead to several ISPs in the country revising their data plans. While it will be interesting to see the net consumption of people after this metered internet comes into force, it will also not be surprising if providers in other countries come up with similar plans in the future.
