iPhone App Generates Microclimates Of Random Interactions

A new iPhone app seeks to transform everyday life by encouraging experimental forms of behaviour. Users upload a profile picture and select a list of situations they would like to happen to them. These range from innocent “hug me for 5 seconds exactly” to subversive “let me inspect the contents of your bag for bombs and such.”

When out in public, the app’s participants are only alerted to other users in their proximity and subsequently notified of the situations those users would like to occur. From there the random interactions commence:

“The initial list of situations are preloaded but users can choose to add their own situations, which are vetted before going live on the system. The app is tightly moderated to avoid exploitation by stalkers and chat roulette style exhibitionists.”

The app is the brainchild of artists collective Benrick, who they bill it as the first Marxist iPhone App, though the main inspiration behind the app it quite clearly the Situationist International
