The bicycle has existed in a perpetual state of tweaking and modification due to the enthusiast subcultures that have developed around it, but this latest mod significantly ups the ante.

Dr. Carsten Mehring has created the Streetflyer:

“a human-powered, light-weight carbon-fiber vehicle that allows you to get a running start and then simply put your legs up to get into a horizontal hang gliding position using a body-harness”

Aside from instant superhero fantasy gratification this contraption could also see deployment in physical rehabilitation as “it allows the user to be in a suspended vertical position while propelling themselves forward with no impact to their limbs.”

Although not very practical, it’s a fascinating innovation nonetheless.
