To look at the mild-mannered couple of Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti today, you wouldn’t think they were once dubbed the ‘wreckers of civilization‘ by a Member of Parliament, as was the case with the duo’s early noise performance-art extremities in the original Industrial group, Throbbing Gristle. Over three decades later, Carter and Tutti have mellowed somewhat, preferring “quiet sounds,” but remain on the cutting edge of electronic music technology. Vice/Motherboard‘s Electric Independence video series concludes its season with a look inside Carter and Tutti’s country home studio and its dazzling array of sequencers, synthesizers and custom, homemade noise-blasters.
