The Director of Communications for The New York Cosmos talks about the unique story angles that make people all over the world pay attention to the rebirth of America’s most beloved soccer club.
Theresa Tran will be one of the speakers at our upcoming PSFK CONFERENCE NY 2011.Theresa is the Director of Communications for The New York Cosmos. She takes both a strategic and creative approach to communications and finds the unique story angles that make people all over the world pay attention to the rebirth of America’s most beloved soccer club–even without a professional team at this time. Prior to The New York Cosmos, she was President/Founder of Tease Marketing, Director of Communications for Nike’s Jordan brand and also worked for DKNY, BMW and Miramax Films. In anticipation of the conference, we bring you a few thoughts from Theresa:
Tell us about the personal experience or moment that’s most influenced your vision and approach to your work:
I didn’t grow up playing sports, but I did grow up in Portland, Oregon with Nike’s World Headquarters in my backyard. So naturally, I knew that’s where I wanted to work right out of school and that’s where I would start my career. I have since taken all that knowledge and passion for sports and evolved it into a 15-year sports marketing career that’s taken me all over the world working with many brands, athletes, leagues, and organizations.
What is the most exciting challenge that you’re addressing right now at the New York Cosmos?
The most exciting challenge for me is taking a professional sports organization that lay dormant for 25 years and utilizing the power of traditional media and social media to get the word out about our comeback in a very short amount of time and aggressively putting ourselves in the public consciousness again. And doing it all in a highly saturated market.
Where do you find inspiration outside of your industry?
I am a travel junkie and will never get tired of it. It’s the only way I can stay motivated and inspired in my job.
Theresa will be speaking at PSFK CONFERENCE NY 2011. Come listen to like minds as they share their ideas to make things better on stage and off.
