ICFF 2011: ModProducts Transform The Toilet Seat
New York City-based ModProducts who made a memorable debut a few years back at ICFF with their award-winning ModKat litterbox design returned this year with a new product concept. Motivated by the lack of well designed toilet seats available at home improvement stores, partners Brett Teper and Rich Williams set out to see if they could come up with a better functioning and better looking alternative. The result of their work is LOU.
Why shouldn’t we be as discerning about our toilet seat as we are with the other furniture in our homes? LOU suits our décor with his stylish good looks, while considerately reminding those who are standing to keep him closed. LOU doesn’t mind being put down.
Every detail has been thoughtfully considered. The lid lift and seat indents allow access without that icky, cold porcelain contact. The children’s lid option allows your whole family to enjoy LOU without having an unwieldy contraption to swap on and off.
The base seat features a low profile design with the seat sections nested into each other instead of stacked. This reduces the amount of materials need to make LOU over existing models. A finger tab allows for easy opening of the center seat panel. On the children’s version, an orange swivel panel was created for easier access. The panel can easily be removed for cleaning. The hinge mechanism will eventually be made of stainless steel for durability. LOU includes a little ‘Close Me’ reminder on the underside of the seat. A thumbs up to ModProducts for another well considered, good looking product for an overlooked category.
