Macy’s Makeover: Steve Powers To Create Love Letter For Brooklyn

By Emma Hutchings on May 20, 2011

Contemporary artist Steve Powers, whose work has featured before on PSFK and who was one of the speakers at our Conference last year, will join with twelve local artists to paint a mural on the parking garage of Macy’s in Downtown Brooklyn.

The long-neglected store in the Fulton Street Mall has been criticized for its shabby appearance and is now getting a colorful makeover. The design of the mural will include “community catchphrases” in easy-to-read font, painted across the building’s facades. The color scheme will be chosen by the artists and local people.

The inside of the store has also received a renovation, with employees replacing poster-covered windows with open displays. New signs, awnings, lighting and carpeting have been installed, along with a new coat of paint.
