Movable Street Parks Transform Urban Space

Movable Street Parks Transform Urban Space

By Emma Hutchings on May 11, 2011

Plaza Movil (Movable Square), designed by Designo Patagonia, is a way to transform public space in urban areas on bank holidays and weekends, when there is little traffic. These street parks feature games, seating and green accessories, all transportable by van to different areas on different days. They have been designed to improve access to recreational facilities for people who don’t live near to parks and playgrounds.

Plaza Movil was given the second prize at the Philips Livable Cities Awards, receiving €25,000 for building a prototype. Based in Buenos Aires, the design team hopes to spread this idea to other cities in Latin America and around the world.
