Wi-Fi Light Bulbs For Your Smart Home

Wi-Fi Light Bulbs For Your Smart Home

By Emma Hutchings on May 23, 2011

Netherlands-based NXP has introduced its Greenchip smart lighting technology for Internet-enabled, energy-efficient lighting networks in both the workplace and the home. This technology will be in many Wi-Fi connected light bulbs coming on sale by early next year.

This will enable you to turn your lights on and off from a computer linked to your home’s wireless grid, alter mood lighting with a remote control, and incorporate motion sensing lighting. You could also connect your burglar alarm system to your lights, cycling them so it looks like someone is home, and you’ll be able to download apps that suggest ways in which you can improve energy efficiency and reduce your electricity bill.
