Big Bambu At The Venice Biennial [Video]
Identical twins Mike and Doug Starn left their mark on New York City with Big Bambu, an installation of 5,000, 30-40 foot bamboo polls lashed together with over 5 miles of nylon rope by experienced mountaineers to resemble a cresting wave over the Metropolitan Museum Of Art‘s roof-deck. At this year’s 54th Venice Biennial, a major contemporary art exhibition that takes place once every two years in Venice, Italy, Big Bambu will leave its indelible mark once again. The monumental structure will be recreated with 1,000 polls from the previous installation and 2,000 fresh bamboo poles harvested from a farm in France.
Big Bambú is on exhibit at the Venice Biennale through June 15th. See video from its construction below.
