+Pool Gets Green Light From Engineering Firm

+Pool Gets Green Light From Engineering Firm

By Brian W. Jones on June 16, 2011

Almost one year after first sharing the idea to build a plus-shaped pool in the East River, the designers—Family New York and The Office of PlayLab—have received some good news. Following months of research and collaboration with renown engineering firm Arup, a feasibility report has essentially concluded that “yes this can happen, here’s how.”

The project would not only be the first of its kind, but the iconic structure would transform aerial views of the city. Aside from providing a new way for for people to interact with the city, there is a hope that it would also change people’s perspectives of the water surrounding New York.

Now that +Pool has garnered support from community members, architects, designers and engineers; the next step of any big idea is to raise the funds to make it happen. So, the group has launched a Kickstarter page to raise the money needed to build and test a model of the filtration method. Once these studies can prove what’s on paper, New Yorkers will be one step closer to beating the heat in a floating +Pool.
