Waze, the free mobile app that offers real-time maps and traffic info sourced directly from its community of drivers. Next week it is going to be teaming up with L.A. news station KABC Channel 7 for the ultimate collaboration. On July 15th, 11 miles of Interstate 405 is going to close for the weekend in the latest phase of a $1 billion widening project. This event has been labelled “Carmaggedon” by many, with city officials warning of a traffic nightmare.

Waze and KABC Channel 7 will offer regular updates for drivers searching for alternative routes for their journeys. Whilst providing L.A. road users with user-generated traffic information that could help ease congestion and delays, the one-off TV appearance should also help Waze attract new users to its service.
