The NFL New York Giants will broadcast live tweets from their fans on NBC 4 in New York during the two final preseason games. During the game, the tweets from fans will appear on the lower third of the television screen and also be featured on MetLife Stadium’s video boards. Mike Stevens, Giants Chief Marketing Officer, said in a statement:
With over 6.4 million fans in the tri-state area and one of the largest national fan bases in the NFL, our social media strategy is designed entirely around giving them the best way to share their passions — and the Giants experience — with each other.
Texas-based social media curator Mass Relevance will be handling this campaign and tabulate the results in real time. The Giants will continue to utilize Twitter during the regular season to engage with fans. The team will allow fans to select a player of the game by using Twitter hashtags, and also fans who participate will be able to earn a discount on the chosen player’s merchandise the following week.
