Foursquare Radar Helps Brands Be More Proactive

Foursquare Radar Helps Brands Be More Proactive

By Aziz Ali on October 13, 2011

Do you ever turn to Foursquare to give you recommendations of cool things to do in your vicinity? The location-based gaming app is now adding Radar, which promises to deliver even more results for that specific user need. This new feature takes advantage of one of Apple’s iOS 5 updates, which enables users to monitor activity in their nearby region.

Foursquare sees this as a gaming changing feature for them and partnering stores, which are now able to send notifications to nearby users without them checking in. Behaviorally though, there could be a challenge. Since most Foursquare check-ins happen after the destination is reached, it might be bothersome for users to have local vendors pushing notifications to nearby mobile devices. While it helps businesses be more proactive, the advertising might be considered junk by many people. Let’s keep an eye on how the Foursquare team applies this new feature for local businesses and big brands.
