PSFK’s tablet experience provides a smooth, visual experience – part-reminiscent of an app environment, part print magazine.
Those of you that read PSFK.com on your tablet may have noticed a couple of changes over the past two weeks. PSFK has partnered with Onswipe to deliver a premium, browser-based tablet experience to our readers. Onswipe is “a platform that allows publishers of all sizes to make their content and advertising a beautiful experience on touch enabled devices via the browser.” Like many small publishers, PSFK has wanted to build an app for a long time. We have gone back and forth about the idea over the past two years, and have never been able to justify pulling the trigger. Specifically, we have these concerns:
- Does a strong enough value proposition exist for PSFK, and for its readers, to justify the investment?
- Will people download our app when there seems to be app-fatigue?
- Are we delivering a solution to an acute, unmet need?
The answer to the questions above is ultimately, ‘no.’ But, we still want to deliver a premium experience to our growing base of tablet users. Onswipe has been able to provide us with just the solution that we need. If you visit PSFK.com on your tablet, you will be met with a smooth, visual experience – part-reminiscent of an app environment, part print magazine. You can swipe through a summary of the articles or you can drill down to individual articles for an equally satisfying experience.
In the future, we hope to be able to use this environment to promote PSFK’s events and ‘Future Of’ reports in a way that really does print and videos justice. We are also talking to advertisers about how they can seamlessly integrate their messages into the content flow, rather than sit off to the side, as is the case with display ads as viewed on a PC.
If you have a tablet, check out the new Onswipe experience and let us know what you think!
