Starbucks AR App Interacts With Its Holiday Cups [Video]

With 'Cup Magic' you can use your smartphone to scan five festive characters and watch animations.

Starbucks is set to launch its first-ever augmented reality app next week, available for both iPhone and Android devices. Cup Magic, created by digital agency Blast Radius, interacts with five different characters appearing on Starbucks’ red holiday cups. When you scan them with your phone’s camera, they come to life in short animations, which you can share with friends via Facebook or email.

The holiday characters are an ice skater, a squirrel, a little boy, a dog and a fox. You can interact with them by tapping the screen and the app also works with 47 additional objects in-store such as bags of coffee. If you activate all five characters, there is a chance to win a prize. The mobile app also lets you send festive ecards and Starbucks holiday offers. You can see Cup Magic in action below:
