True-Crime TV Show Releases iPad App With Previews, Archive, Exclusive Clips & More

By Emma Hutchings on November 28, 2011

CBS Interactive has launched a companion app for the popular true-crime series 48 Hours Mystery, giving fans access to lots of special features and extras. The iPad app has an annual subscription price of $4.99, which lets viewers watch full episodes from the current season available the same day as the broadcast, as well as an archive dating back to 2005. They can also view previews of upcoming shows, written transcripts of each episode, photo galleries, extra clips and interviews.

CBS has integrated community directly into the mobile platform so users can engage with other fans of the show and post comments about each episode without having to leave the app. They can also share their reactions with friends and followers on Facebook, Twitter or via email. Susan Zirinsky, executive producer of 48 Hours Mystery, said:

’48 Hours Mystery’ on your iPad offers real-life drama anytime, anyplace. Now living on your iPad, ’48 Hours Mystery’ shares behind the scenes with the correspondents and producers, lets you explore unique video extras and photo galleries, and connect with others who believe you need a superior brain to be a true crime fanatic. Our outreach online has been enormous, and the iPad will take us to another dimension. Who knows – maybe we can solve a crime or right a wrongful conviction – ’48 Hours Mystery’ is making a difference in the world of law and justice.
