The billion-dollar conglomerate is out to launch a simultaneous campaign to engage with its fans all over the world.
Virgin is slated to launch its very first global social media marathon involving Virgin groups in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The marathon will take place at Facebook offices around the world today. The massive online event will see the different Virgin groups, from Virgin Atlantic to Virgin Wines, engaging with millions of fans worldwide.
The 26-hour long share-a-thon will begin with Richard Branson’s Virgin History, which chronicles the history of Virgin from its humble beginnings to its present stature as a global powerhouse. Virgin will also launch a Facebook app called ‘First Times,’ which highlights your Facebook “firsts” with friends, such as your first post, first tagged photo, first event, among many others. ‘First Times’ will be available in the Virgin Facebook page along with the individual Facebook pages of other Virgin companies.
Virgin will also offer various prizes to fans through Facebook on every hour of the social marathon, ranging from flights and getaways to various Virgin merchandise.
Of launching another “first” for the company, founder Richard Branson says:
Back when we started Virgin, we came up with the name because we were all virgins at business. It was our first time and Virgin has been about first times ever since.
