American Express Incentivizes Shopping At Small Businesses By Giving Consumers $10

By Graham Jones on December 9, 2011

“Spend $10, Get $10″ is a new consumer incentive social media campaign launched on behalf of American Express to encourage customers to patronize small businesses. The credit card company allows its members to sync their American Express card with the location based social media game Foursquare. When they then check-in and do business at participating US locations, they instantly receive $10 for spending $10. This seamless redemption experience therefore lacks reliance on coupons or other coded vouchers.

Taking advantage of consumer enthusiasm for discounts, the American Express and Foursquare collaboration also allows members to explore local haunts. More than 300,000 small businesses are participating in this mobile offering.
