Creative Minds Take Inspiration From And Create Art With Food
PSFK was recently invited to attend Something I Ate, a collaborative project between Kat Popiel—founder of the online food magazine On Plate, Still Hungry—and Sam Kim of SkimKim Foods. In the weeks leading up to the event, artists documented seven consecutive days of their personal eating habits which provided both a basis for the food served at the event and the creative work unveiled. Each artist showcased a piece inspired by their documented eating habits using whichever media they preferred, including photography, jewelry design, fashion, film, music, and more.
As described by the founders:
The idea is that from food, we derive pleasure, satisfaction, energy and inspiration (or vice versa) and these elements, whether cognizant of them or not, ignite our creative fires. With “Something I Ate”, we intend to share various artists’ true perception of food & sustenance in everyday life.

Following their final submissions, each artist noted a defining meal, ingredient, or experience for Sam Kim to use as inspiration for her seasonal, local interpretation of the item that included a pairing of cocktails.
