Customers Can Choose The Beef Breed, Location & Method Of Slaughter

By Yi Chen on December 2, 2011

An organic beef provider in Germany is letting customers have a say in how they want their beef – and they don’t mean rare, medium or well-done. Customers online can choose the breed of the cow, the specific farm from which they come from, and the way they are slaughtered.

Mycow is a family-owned company which delivers organic beef from a network of farms to subscribed customers. Customers have the option of selecting beef where the cow has been killed in the field rather than in a factory. The company explains that pasture slaughter causes less stress on the animal, which in turn produces more high-quality meat.

Nowadays, not many farmers employ this more humane method of slaughter as it’s expensive and difficult, and a license is also required. A 5 kilogram (11 pounds) of pasture-slaughtered meat would cost around $100 USD.
