Gamers Purchase Virtual Goods And Contribute To Real World Clean Water Supply [Future Of Gaming]

In our research for the Future Of Gaming report, our consulting team noticed a growing tendency towards using gaming To Promote Fundraising. One example of this trend is MiniMonos -a virtual world aimed at immersing children in themes related to social responsibility and sustainability. On the site, kids create monkey avatars, make friends with other players and play games. Buying virtual goods inside the game and contributes to a clean water supply for kids in India (14,000+ days as August 2011), as well as adopting orangutans, supporting wild tigers, and other postive rewards. There are also in-world rewards for real-world actions that benefit the environment such as recycling or planting trees in the community. The game’s user base has been growing at 20% per month and now has about 300,000 registered members.
