Inter-App Game Pressures Runners To Stick To Their Run [Future Of Gaming]

Reebok has created a mobile app that informs an individual’s Facebook friends and Twitter followers when a person has planned to go out for a run—and whether or not they actually do.

In our research for the Future Of Gaming report, the PSFK consulting team noticed that one motivation driving in-game participation was Peer-Pressure. One example of this mechanic is Reebok’s The Promise Keeper mobile application. Sports brand Reebok has created a mobile app that informs an individual’s Facebook friends and Twitter followers when a person has planned to go out for a run—and whether or not they actually do. The Promise Keeper utilizes GPS technology to hold runners accountable for their plans, motivating them through the social pressure of publicly failing to reach goals.
