The Ultimate Coffee Table Book: Designer Todd Oldham On Alexander Girard
Attention designophiles: this winter you’re going to need to make some more room on your bookshelf for a new tome sure to get your creative juices flowing. Lovingly penned and compiled by designer Todd Oldham and Kiera Coffee, Alexander Girard (AMMO Books, 2011) is a comprehensive guide of the multi-talented aesthete’s career–which impressively expanded to everything from typography and architecture, to textile design and illustration. Featured for the first time in the book is a timeline of Girard’s life in design, with never before seen images unearthed by Oldham.
Internationally recognized for his bold, colorful, and iconic textile designs for Herman Miller (often featured in conjunction with furniture designs by his contemporaries Charles and Ray Eames, and George Nelson), La Fonda del Sol restaurant, and his environmental design for Braniff International Airways (1965), Girard is a true artistic inspiration.
Below are a few images culled from Alexexander Girard, but if you live in NYC you can pick up your own copy at Barneys NY. The luxury story recently held a release party featuring Oldham, and if you check out their site you can even view some of the behind the scenes magic with Simon Doonan.
