By Tim Ryan on December 28, 2011

In our research for the Future Of Gaming report, our consulting team noticed a growing tendency towards games being used To Improve Everyday Personal Behavior. One example of this trend is Zamzee-a start-up that has created an online platform rewarding users for different forms of movement by transforming the data collected from a wearable smart meter into redeemable points. Powered by a small motion sensor that doubles as a retractable USB stick, participants upload their personal data to Zamzee’s web portal as they complete activities. These physical activity ‘points’ can be used to unlock real rewards like shopping discounts, prizes,
and new challenges. Participants may additionally share their data with friends, creating an interactive web-platform for healthy competition. The company’s stated mission is to increase the health of young people by making fitness a fun, interactive goal. According to an internal proof of concept where teens spent over 10,000 days testing Zamzee, the platform got them moving around 30% more.
