Luxury Brand Upcycles Materials From Its Exhibition For Children’s Playground

By Emma Hutchings on January 5, 2012

The luxury Chinese brand Shang Xia, based in Shanghai, recently upcycled the building materials from its “Human and Nature” exhibition into a playground for the children of migrant workers. This has served to both increase the brand’s appeal and reduce waste by reusing the material for a charitable purpose.

Jing Daily reports that Shang Xia’s one-month-long exhibition celebrated its one-year anniversary and the temporary installation was then broken down with a “next-stage” use in mind for the wood, bamboo and pebbles.

A play area and a reading room designed by Kengo Kuma were built at the Liuying Lu school for children of migrant workers in Shanghai’s Hongkou district. Study tables, bookshelves and stools were donated by Shang Xia and the brand also asked for donations of educational books, toys and games for the children aged between 6 and 13.
