This bicycle covered in woven fiber (complete with a child’s seat attached) is a piece by Brazilian artist Jarbas Lopes. On display at the VIP Art Fair 2.0, the ‘Cicloviaérea’ series shows a bicycle almost hidden after being encased in natural fiber. Only the bike chain, connective joints and tires remain visible. Using a biodegradable and sustainable material on top of an everyday object makes us realise that we take traditional design for granted and forces us to question why things are made from certain materials.
