Piers Fawkes: About PSFK & Malware

Readers' machines were not affected by the recent attack on our server.

Piers Fawkes, PSFK

Regular readers will have learned through a security pop-up on their browser that PSFK.com was hit with a hack over the last few days. From what I understand a bot sniffed out an old plugin file that we had on the server. This ancient and unused file has a security flaw and the bot then used that flaw to ping readers’ browsers to further attack our server. Although the warning that popped up when people visited the site was rather scary, I want to assure all readers that their computers are unaffected by the malware.

If you’d like to know more about the Timthumb exploit and the affects on servers, feel free to read these files.
