New Satellite Could Be A Garbage Truck For Outer Space

New Satellite Could Be A Garbage Truck For Outer Space

By Lamya Hussain on February 24, 2012

CleanSpace One is a Swiss satellite concept that is currently under development at the Swiss Space Center, part of the Swiss Federal Institute for Technology (EPFL). Their aim is to create prototype that can effectively help remove debris that is floating around in outer space. Project developers are hoping to launch a whole family of ready-made systems, designed efficiently and as sustainably as possible, to help the clean-up process in space.

The design and construction process of CleanSpace One will cost approximately 10 million Swiss francs, and depending on funding and partnerships, this first ‘space janitor’ will be launched within the next three to five years.
