Biomechanics Play White Stripes Song With Sounds From Their Lab [Video]

By Aziz Ali on February 24, 2012

Imperial Blast is a biomechanics and biophysics lab at London’s Imperial College that does everything from analyzing injury patterns and materials behavior to developing computational models of human anatomy.

Their latest interesting project was created with the help of Inside Knowledge Team, a group of student bloggers, that re-created the White Stripes song ‘Seven Nation Army’ from footage and sounds captured in the science labs. They turned an otherwise rigid and dry environment into an exciting space that inspires.

Watching the video above allows us reflect on the similarities between creating music and what makes lab work exciting: collaboration. The Inside Knowledge teams puts it very well when they write:

Taken out of context, a single action in the lab means little, but when orchestrated correctly, a coherent story about biomechanics can be told… The work would seem familiar to any musician – tuning instruments, setting up recording devices and repeating the same actions to get the desired result.
