A librarian from the New York Public Library compiles a list of the books that appear in episodes of the popular series.

For fans of the popular TV show Mad Men, librarian Billy Parrott from the New York Public Library has compiled and published an updated reading list to get you in the mood for the much-anticipated start of season five. The list features book recommendations based on works of literature that have appeared in Mad Men.

The easy-to-follow layout shows which books are from which episode of the series, with a screenshot of where it was spotted. For example, you can see that John Le Carré’s The Spy Who Came in From the Cold appears in Season 4, Episode 13 and William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury appears in Season 3, Episode 11. Parrott writes:

Some of the books on the list are featured more prominently in the series than others, but all are a great way to gain insight into the episodes and the social and cultural times in which the series is set.
