STAR Systems in Arizona, USA, has formed a team to create the Hermes Spacecraft. To receive funding for this, it’s turning to the crowd-sourced platform Kickstarter to help initiate the project. The team hopes to raise $20,000 by the end of April in order to construct and test out the prototype on land.
The Hermes team consists of aerospace entrepreneurs who have had hands-on experience when it comes to aerospace engineering. It could take $4 million for the spacecraft to be ready to send its first paying customer into space, and around $8 million to realize its three-year plan in order to compete with already existing space tourism services like Virgin Galactic and Space Adventure. A private space trip on a Hermes Spacecraft could start at around $150,000 per passenger.
