Designer François Chambard of Brooklyn-based furniture design company UM Project showed off thirteen of his unique Craft System Lamps at last week’s Wanted Design, part of the 2012 New York Design Week.
The modular robots in the collection are connected aesthetically by their tapered cube-like, Corian base, but Chambard took great consideration as to make sure no two designs feel the same; each design has it’s own distinct character and charm. For instance, not all of the pieces in the collection are lamps- one of the designs is a functioning theremin while another houses a small, live tree.
François stated that the each lamp takes him a few days to design and that he has no shortage of ideas for future lamps. UM Project manufactures 75% of their projects from their shop in Brooklyn.
