The 2012 Vimeo Video Festival kicked off earlier this week with the annual Vimeo Awards, an award show recognizing and honoring the best original online videos of the year. Thirteen videos were chosen as winners from over 14,000 entries in thirteen different categories; categories include Advertising, Action Sports, Fashion, Lyrical, Narrative, Experimental, Animation, Captured, Motion Graphics, Music Video, Series, Documentary, and Remix. The Grand Prize winner, Symmetry, a split-screen film directed by Everynone that explores moments of harmony in life, was also the Lyrical category award winner.

Captured Winner, a film that captures artistic expression or performance: Sweatshoppe Video Painting Europe by Sweatshoppe

Motion Graphics Winner, a film that uses graphic design principles to create a video using animation or filmic techniques: A History of Title Sequence by Jurjen Versteeg

Remix Winner, a film that is created using images, sequences or audio from existing works to make a new, original, independent piece: Rear Window Timelapse by Jeff Desom

Advertising Winner, a short video commissioned by a brand or advertising agency to promote a company, product or service: K-Swiss- Kenny Powers MFCEO by Caviar
