China’s Average Carbon Footprint By Person Reaches European Levels [Headlines]

A 9% increase in per capita emissions in 2011 to reach 7.2 tons per person, nearly the equivalent of Europe's 7.5.

China’s total carbon emissions have made it the largest national producer since 2006, but emissions per person have always been lower than those in European countries. With a 9% increase in CO2 emissions per person in 2011, the average Chinese person now has relatively the same as a European; 7.2 tons per person in China vs. 7.5 tons per person in Europe. Guardian
