Leland Bobbé takes photographs of drag queens with half their face with drag makeup and the other half of their face sporting a clean, natural look in the series ‘Half Drag.’ The portraits look like they were put together as two separate shots in post-production, but the work is real, showcasing the split lives of drag queens.

In an interview with Vogue Italy:
“With this series, my intention was to capture both the male and the female side of my subjects. Through the power of makeup and hairstyling, these men are able to completely change themselves and find their feminine side in parallel to their masculinity. They are all pictures taken live, without any post-production”
The series embraces the fact that there are different sides of self-expression and sexual identity. The photographs capture traditional masculine and feminine qualities in a balanced ways, enabling the viewers to feel more empathy towards the models.
