Author Mirrors Book Plot With Parallel Real-Life Adventure
Readers of 'Ready Player One' could win a DeLorean if they found the 'Easter Egg' within the book and completed a series of video game challenges.
In Ernest Cline’s novel, Ready Player One, a billionaire who creates a game-based version of the Internet leaves his entire fortune to the player who can find an Easter Egg within the virtual universe. In the real world, the author chose to mirror the story to celebrate the release of the paperback version by hiding a URL in the text of the book. The readers who found this hidden Easter Egg were led to the first of three increasingly difficult video game challenges. The first person to complete all three of these challenges won the grand prize, a 1981 DeLorean automobile.
