Zaha Hadid Applies Her Architectural Style To Donna Karan Perfume Bottle
Designer applies her iconic design across vastly divergent scales.
World famous designer Zaha Hadid has teamed up with perfumer Anne Flipo created a curvy, fluid shaped dark glass container for Donna Karan Woman, a new fragrance for women from Estée Lauder. The bottle’s design demonstrate the flexibility of Zaha Hadid’s design strategies and how they can be applied across a spectrum of objects that vary greatly in scale.
According to Architectural Digest, the architect was noted for saying that “the bottle’s dark, translucent qualities offer a sense of mystery that awakens our curiosity.” They also captured Anne Flipo’s explanation of how the scent was developed:
“Starting with an earthy base of sandalwood and Haitian vetiver, Flipo added contrasting elements to evoke the complexity of the female psyche. “I first thought about everything a woman embodies and then picked notes to match these characteristics,” she explains. Aldehydes and pink pepper top notes add a “whirl of liberty,” while softer florals like jasmine, rose, and violet are a romantic, ultrafeminine touch.”
