Show your support for independent vendors on November 24th by shopping local and helping your community retailers.
Small Business Saturday occurs on the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year as a way to support the backbone of America’s economy. This year Small Business Saturday falls on November 24th, and shoppers can show their community support by shopping at local, independently owned businesses that create jobs, boost the economy, and help preserve neighborhoods in their towns.
American Express started Small Business Saturday in 2010 as a way to help generate more awareness of local, small businesses. Last year, over 100 million consumers took part, shopping in local stores as well as at small online storefronts. The website name ‘Shop Small‘ is also the slogan of the event.
Over the past few years, there have been many success stories from Small Business Saturday. Last year alone, American Express saw a 23% increase in Cardmember transactions at small business merchants. Especially with the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, it is important this year to get out and support your local businesses.
On Saturday, you can support the cause by going to any of your small local businesses, but here is a list of some of the businesses located around PSFK (a neighborhood that was hit hard by the hurricane) to get you started:
