Jason Milligan leverages community power rather than working with the traditional publishing industry.
Jason Milligan has already had 2 books published, but for his 3rd book, he decided to put out a novel himself as an eBook, eschewing traditional publishing channels. The novel centers around a bike messenger in the early 2000’s, a “true punk noir journey” according to one reviewer. The cover art is by Chris Piascik.
To get the book published, Milligan has raised support from the biking community. He firmly believes that a creative’s community can fill in for wherever a particular industry is lacking. In his email to us he wrote:
Basically I’ve been approaching bike stores and brands and asking for support. In some cases, I’ve asked for blurbs, and in almost every case, bike people have been wonderfully generous and helpful. Digital publishing has taken the exclusivity of distribution away from the publishers and that other communities can fill the void.
