Popular culture is the genesis of these images that employ retro technology in a new way.
The artwork of Benoit Jammes draws on the aesthetics of films like The Fountain, Rambo and Kill Bill. By breaking down the poster art into color, mood, and minimalist frame-of-mind, the France-based graphic designer is able to clarify the popular cultural references. Note however that some of the works are not actually based on films.
The 32-year-old designer found the cassettes in a shoebox at home and thought to make good use of them. In an email exchange he said that “I think people from my generation relate to this work. Many enjoy the funny side of it, the references, they are happy to see that these old cassette tapes managed to start a new life!”
