Cluster Balloonist Plans To Cross Atlantic Ocean

Jonathan Trappe is currently raising funds on Indiegogo for the unique journey, which will see him carried by 365 helium balloons.

Jonathan Trappe wants to become the first person ever to fly across the Atlantic Ocean by cluster balloon. He plans to travel from Maine to France by tying a huge cluster of helium balloons to his tiny yellow lifeboat.

The experienced pilot has flown cluster balloons many times before, crossing the English Channel and the Alps, and he holds the Guinness World Record for flying under the largest cluster of balloons ever built.

Wired reports that Trappe now wants to cross the Atlantic with the help of 365 helium-filled balloons, and he is currently raising funds on Indiegogo to help fulfill his dream. The goal is $299,999, with perks including documentation of the flight, one of the giant balloons, the lifeboat itself, and sponsorship.
