Snail Mail My Email was a 2011 project created by Ivan Cash that turned emails into handwritten letters and sent them anywhere in the world, free of charge. For the collaborative art project, volunteers interpreted strangers’ digital messages into a physical format. Over 10,000 letters were sent across the globe and the project has inspired a book, which includes a collection of the most memorable letters and moments.
The project aimed to “reignite the lost art of letter writing, reminding us of the power of personal connection in a digital world,” and provides an interesting look at what email has largely replaced. Click through to see a small selection of the handwritten letters:
