German artist Lorenz Potthast has created a full-head helmet that looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. The headgear is called the “Decelerator” and allows wearers to essentially view the world around them in slow motion. The helmet includes a camera that feeds live-video to the head-mounted display inside. With a remote, the wearer can control the speed of the video playback.
There’s also a small tablet screen mounted on the outside of the spherical helmet that allows passers-by to get a glimpse of what the wearer is currently seeing. The Decelerator is an art project that explores the perception of time and surroundings. Watch the video below to see how the helmet works.
