YouEarnedIt was launched as part of the Rockfish Labs incubator and allows co-workers to reward each other with points that can then be redeemed for prizes. The concept works similar to loyalty programs found with retailers, airline providers, and consumer services. The employer can select from a range of prizes in an online catalog, including TVs, iPads, vacations, or restaurant vouchers. Once an employee has earned enough points, they can swap the points in to receive the actual product.
The employee recognition program is not only great for staff morale, but employers can also track who or which team is getting the most points to gain a better understanding of how things are working out. Already, ad agencies like Y&R, JWT, 24/7, and even retailer Walmart is testing out the online system.
Sam Decker, CEO of Mass Relevance who implemented YouEarnedIt said the program fits in with the firm’s core value of “freesponsibility” and gave an example that:
My director of product management walked out on Friday holding an Apple TV over his head and said, “Thanks everybody.” So people can see it and it becomes tangible.
