NASA‘s design for the prototype Z-1 space suit looks oddly familiar, as if they drew inspiration from Toy Story‘s Buzz Lightyear? The white suit is accented by bright green stripes and features a large port on the back through which astronauts can enter and exit. This port can also be used to dock the suit to the side of a shuttle or space station, therefore bypassing the need for an airlock. A focus on radiation protection for the Z-1 means it would be suitable for longer spacewalks. Tested reports that the prototype, which NASA will be building on and revising, also has increased mobility:
Bearings in the suit’s joints will give astronauts the flexibility to hop over lunar or martian soil with more grace than the explorers who wore older NASA exosuits.
